- Whenever possible install an inground pool
prior to landscaping and grass seeding.
- Make sure you know where your septic system,
underground wires, well lines, gas lines
and or have a copy
of a sight survey of the property.
- Check with your town to see if there are any
special requirements that apply to the installation of a pool
on your property.
- When picking out a pool size and shape take
into consideration what is important to you in regards to shape.
- People who want to swim laps want to make
sure that the pool is long and that there are no obstructions
in their path such as in pool stairs, diving boards
- People who want to play volleyball may want a longer shallow
end
- Taller people may want a deeper shallow end
- Seniors, small children and everyone between may want seats
or swim outs in the walls (Great place to have the heated water
enter the pool through a jet)
- Shaped pools tend to be more work to clean as well as offer
less surface area than rectangular pools.
- Pick out the options that are important to
you now and either get them now or prepare to have them installed
later. (i.e. make sure you order plumbing hook ups or light conduit
installation for adding features later on) To add some things
later on may require digging up yard, decking and pool to install.
- Make sure everything below ground is corrosion
free. Underground clamps, braces, pipes, elbows and wall panels
will all corrode eventually. This may or may not affect you today
but can affect the future owner of your home, who will be concerned
if the pool you installed was corrosion free or if he is going
to endure costly repairs to rusted out walls and fixtures.
- Get a filtration system that is easy to take
care of and efficient at cleaning the pool.
- A salt
generator is truly a remarkable invention that will be a standard
on pools and water systems of the future. This product is already
the majority caretaker for all pools and waterparks throughout
Australia. This unit which is installed in conjunction with the
filter system and works with the pool water which is kept with
an incredibly low salt level. As the water passes over the system
chloring gas is created and released into the pool. This will
replace the weekly grind of handling harsh pool chemicals.
- Keep in mind that we are in the North East
and that the seasons, especially in recent years, is not the most
reliable. A heater will add weeks if not months to the swim season.
Make sure the heater you get is an efficient one. Especially if
you are the type to want the water to be a constant level temperature.
Keeping a constant temperature can be a toll on a gas-fired system.
Check with Central Hudson to see what they say about electric
Heat Pumps efficiency and safety compared with gas fired systems.
- Decking. Concrete decking is the most commonly
used installation around swimming pools. This is because pavers
tend to settle and allow grass to grow through, and actual stone
gets to hot on for feet to walk on. However it is important to
realize that everywhere you look concrete cracks. Usually not
large cracks but tiny hairline cracks that can draw your eye right
to them. Having stamped concrete gives you not only the benefits
of poured concrete it also gives you the appearance of your choice
of stone and color. And if those tiny hairline cracks form they
will be less noticeable.
- Make sure you have individual control of each individual water
port and suction lines. This will allow you to increase power
to a vacuum system or specify what area of the pool you want the
heat to come through.
